Historic shooting night lifts Wildcats to win at SUU

CEDAR CITY - Weber State had a historic shooting night to earn a 90-80 win at Southern Utah Thursday night at the America First Event Center.
The Wildcats were 12 of 17 from 3-point range, 26 of 28 from the free throw line and shot 51 percent overall from the field as they wrapped up the first half of Big Sky play.
It was the fourth best 3-point field goal percentage and the fourth best single-game free throw percentage in Weber State history.
Weber State also used two big runs to pull out the win over the Thunderbirds. Southern Utah jumped out to a 24-14 led with 8:25 left in the first half. SUU led again by nine points at 27-18 with 6:35 to play, when the Wildcats closed the first half on a 15-2 run to take a 33-29 lead at the break.
The Thunderbirds tied the game at 38-38 early in the second half, when the 'Cats responded with a 15-1 run to take an 14-point lead. SUU cut the lead to four points with under two minutes to play, but Weber State was a perfect 12 of 12 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to seal the win.
The star of the win was senior Dusty Baker, who tied his career-high with 21 points. He was 4 of 5 from the field, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range, and was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line, to go along with five rebounds and two assists
Senior Jerrick Harding also had 21 points in just 21 minutes of play as he was 7 of 11 from the field and 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Ryan Richardson added 16 points with three 3-pointers. He also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and tied his career-high with five assists. Zach Braxton added 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Michal Kozak also scored 10 points.
The Wildcats improved to 14-7 overall and wrapped up the first half of Big Sky play at 7-2 in the league standings. WSU will continue its road trip at Northern Arizona Saturday night.
