Wildcats beat Vikings for eighth-straight win

Ryan Richardson tied his career-high with 27 points as Weber State won its eighth-straight game with a 95-86 overtime win at Portland State Thursday night. 

The Wildcats move to 18-7 overall and sit in second-place in the Big Sky at 11-2. 

WSU closed the first half on a 15-5 run and took a 36-34 lead at the break. Portland State led by six at 77-71 with 2:47 left in the second half but the Vikings did not score again in the half as the 'Cats forced overtime for the second-straight game. Weber State closed the extra period on a 14-3 run to seal their fifth-straight win over the Vikings. 

"We had to gut it out and show a lot of toughness and poise and find a way to win and that's what they did," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "We were able to make some stops and make some plays to push it into overtime and able to pull it out. This is a tough place to play and I'm really proud of our team."

The Wildcats shot 56 percent from the field and held Portland State to 44 percent shooting. WSU also knocked down 12 3-pointers and shot 77 percent from the free throw line. The Vikings outrebounded the Wildcats 42-29. 

Four Wildcats scored in double figures led by Richardson who tied his career-high with 27 points with 24 of those points coming in the second half and overtime. He was 10 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range. The six 3-pointers is also tied for a career-high for Richardson who has scored in double figures in 17 straight games.   

Jerrick Harding reached 20 points for the sixth-straight game as he finished with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Brekkott Chapman added 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting with 4 of 5 shooting from 3-point range. He also had seven rebounds. Zach Braxton had 14 points and seven rebounds with three blocked shots. 

The Wildcats continue their road trip at Sacramento State Saturday night.
