Wildcats back on track with 86-73 win over Hornets

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball got back on track after three consecutive losses by picking up an impressive 86-73 victory over Sacramento State.

The game started out close with a tight score for the first seven minutes. WSU went on an 9-3 run to take a 25-20 lead over Sacramento State at the end of the first quarter. Emily Drake shot a perfect first quarter going 5-5 from the field, including 2-2 from beyond the arc and a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. Drake ended the quarter with 14 points.

After five minutes of play in the second quarter WSU had pushed the lead to 10 and despite a four minute scoring drought, the Wildcats finished the second quarter with a 42-36 lead over the Hornets.

Weber State had an early 6-0 run in the fourth quarter and kept Sacramento State from scoring a field in goal in over four minutes. Weber State maintained the lead the rest of the game and finished out with a final score of 86-73.

The Wildcats were led by Drake who dropped 23 points on the night. There were four other Wildcats that scored in double figures. Larryn Brooks had 19 and Kailie Quinn added 12. Jocelyn Adams recorded her fourth double-double on the year with 12 points and and 11 rebounds.

Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman had fun with assists rocking seven on the night.

Weber State shot 44 percent from the field, 38 percent from the three and 78 percent from the free throw line. Sac State shot 35 percent from the field, 29 percent from the three and 64 percent from the free throw line.

WSU had 18 assists, nine turnovers, five blocks and five steals. Sac State had 14 assists, six turnovers, four blocks and six steals.

Weber State is now 17-8 overall on the season and 9-5 in Big Sky Conference play. WSU will set off on the final road trip of the season with to take on Eastern Washington, Feb. 22 and Idaho, Feb. 25. The final home games of the season will be Feb. 28 against Montana and March 2 against Montana State.
