Weber State downs Idaho 105-88

For the first time this season, Weber State women's basketball scored over 100 points in a game as they defeated Idaho 105-88 Saturday afternoon.

Things started out very close between the two teams as they were tied 13-13 with just four minutes remaining in the first quarter. By the time the clock finally ticked down after the initial 10 minutes of play, WSU trailed just 21-20.

In the second quarter, Idaho didn't let Weber State capture the lead for the first five minutes of action. WSU tied everything up 31-31 and then the Wildcats went on a 6-1 run to capture the momentum of the game. WSU finished the half on a 13-5 run for a 44-36 score going into half time.

In the third quarter, Weber State never gave up the lead. The Vandals trailed by as much as 12 at one point. The Wildcats had a 71-65 lead going into the final quarter of play.

Idaho started the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run but WSU's strong offensive efforts of the night rebounded quick and pushed their lead back up to 10 with just under three minutes remaining.
Weber State ended the game on a 15-8 run and finished things with a final score of 105-88.

The Wildcats were led by Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman who had 23 points on the night. Welch-Coleman also had the game hihg of five assists and two steals. She was just one of five Wildcats to score in double figures.

Briana Gray had a new career high of 20 points and had the game high of eight rebounds. Emily Drake and Dominique Williams each added 16 points, a season high for Williams.

Larryn Brooks was the final Wildcat to breach double figures as she had 15 points. Every Wildcat that recorded minutes scored.

Weber State shot an impressive 49 percent from the field, 46 percent from the three and 88 from the free throw line. WSU finished with 36 total rebounds, 15 assists and only eight turnovers.

For the second game in a row a WSU opponent scored 30 or more points in a game as Mikayla Ferenz, who's leading the Big Sky in scoring, had 33 total on the night and Geraldine McCorkell had 31.

Idaho shot 34 percent from the field, 24 from the three and 91 from the free throw line. The Vandals had 41 rebounds on the night, 12 assists and 10 turnovers.

Weber State is now 18-9 overall on the season and 10-6 in Big Sky Conference play. WSU will host the final home games of the season next week starting with Montana Wednesday, Feb. 28 and then Montana State, Friday, March 2 for senior night.
