Weber State downs UND 5-2

Weber State women's tennis started Big Sky Conference play off on a high note by defeating North Dakota 5-2 Friday afternoon.
"This was a close match tonight and the ladies did an excellent job of competing," said head coach Mark Roberts. "We were down in several of the singles matches and we just hung in and kept working hard and found a way to win. This is a good start to our conference play and we look forward to our next match Sunday against SUU."
WSU started off by claiming the doubles point. Pei_Hsusan Kuo and partner Caitlin Herb defeated Isa Sullivan and Preethi Kasilingam in the No. 1 spot with a 6-2 score.
To keep things rolling, WSU's McKenna Lloyd and Sara Parker defeated Carmen Palumbo and Jaylee Yasunaga in the No. 2 doubles spot with a 6-3 score.
With the two wins in doubles play, Weber State had the point advantage going into singles play.
In singles action Herb was the first Wildcat to get a win as she defeated Sullivan 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Morgan Dickason also played a strong match defeated Yasunaga in the No. 5 spot with scores of 6-1, 6-2.
To claim the match, WSU's Dominque Beauvais defeated Zahra Finnigan in the No. 4 spot with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. With Beauvais win WSU had a 4-2 lead with only the No. 6 match to finish.
Lloyd finished everything off nicely with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) win in the No. 6 spot over Alex Revening.
Weber State is now 3-5 overall on the season and 1-0 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats will return home to take on Southern Utah and Dixie State Sunday, March 4 in a double header.
