Weber State falls 70-57 to Idaho State

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball had a surge earlier in the fourth quarter but couldn't cut the score deficit and fell to Idaho State 70-57 Thursday night.
WSU started things off strong by ending the first quarter tied at 18-18. Towards the end of the second quarter the Wildcats hit a cold streak and Idaho State went on a 13-3 run with seven of those points going unanswered.
Going into halftime, Weber State trailed 43-30. The WSU cold streak continued into the second half as the Wildcats went scoreless for the first five minutes of the third quarter. Ciara James ended the scoring drought for WSU with a spin move down low to sink the layup.
The momentum shifted in favor of the Wildcats at the end of the third quarter as Weber State went on an 8-0 run over the final two minutes. WSU trailed 57-42 going into the final quarter.
To start the fourth quarter off, Weber State went on a 9-0 run. A layup by Emily Drake cut Idaho State's lead down to just six points with 6:30 remaining on the clock. The Wildcats couldn't finish and ultimately fell 70-57.
Weber State was led by Drake who had 22 points shooting 50 percent from the field and went 8-8 from the free throw line. Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman also scored in double digits with 13. Welch-Coleman also had the game high with six assists. James had the game high rebounds for WSU with nine.
WSU shot 32 percent from the field, 23 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line. ISU shot 42 percent from the field, 42 from the three and 76 from the free throw line.
WSU is now 3-12 overall on the season and 0-5 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State is next set to host Portland State on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 p.m.
