Weber State downs Idaho State in five set battle

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball got back on track Tuesday night by taking down Idaho State in five sets Tuesday night.
What head coach Jeremiah Larsen said: "Idaho State played a great game and I love the fact we didn't give up like we did last weekend. It shows that our players are learning and growing."
How it happened: In the first set, Weber State trailed 11-7 to Idaho State. Idaho State went on a 6-2 run to push their lead to 17-12 over WSU. Weber State couldn't catch the deficit and gave up five unanswered points to end the first set falling 25-16.
Early in the second set, Weber State put together a big 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. Of those eight unanswered Wildcat points, Dani Nay had five consecutive kills. Later in the set, after ISU made a surge to bring the score 15-13, Weber State went on a 9-3 run to bring the score to 23-16. To close out the second set in favor of the Wildcats, Nay had a kill to bring it to set point. ISU then came up with four consecutive points before another Nay kill gave WSU the 25-21 win.
Idaho State started off the third set by going on a 5-0 run. Weber State came back and took a 13-12 lead over the Bengals. With the set all tied up at 20-20, Idaho State went off on a 5-0 run that took them to a third set victory.
A fire was lit under WSU after the third set loss. The Wildcats jumped out to a 12-7 lead and never looked back. Nay had another kill that sparked an 11-2 run. To take the fourth set, Kennedy Williams had back-to-back kills giving WSU the 25-14 set win.
Things were all tied up at two sets a piece and onto a fifth set. Weber State hit the halfway point first getting an 8-5 lead. Later, WSU pushed the lead to 13-8. After battling extensive rallies in the fifth, ISU faltered and pushed the WIldcats to the 15-9 fifth set win, and overall match victory.
Killing It: Weber State was led by Williams who had 19 kills from 46 attacks and just four errors for a .326 percentage. Nay ended the night with 18 and Megan Gneiting had 11.
Aubrey Saunders-Adams had the match high hitting percentage with a .429. She had six kills from 14 swings with no errors.
WSU ended the match with 63 total kills from, 190 swings with 26 total errors for a .195 percentage.
Ashlyn Power had 53 assists on the match. Weber State had six service aces, with three of them coming from Helena Khouri.
Digging it: Weber State had two Wildcats with 20 or more digs. Both, Khouri and Katelyn Erwin rocked 24 digs on the night. Gneiting rocked 13 digs and Power had 12 to add to WSU's defensive efforts. In total, WSU had 98 digs.
Blocking it: Sam Schiess continued her dominance on the net with the match high of six blocks.
Double up: Gneiting recorded a double-double wither her 11 kills and 13 digs. Power also recorded a double-double on the night with her 53 assists and 12 digs.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 10-4 overall on the season and 1-2 in Big Sky Conference play. This is the second five set match in a row for WSU. This is also the second consecutive five set match against Idaho State as WSU and ISU went into five last year, however it didn't end in WSU's favor.
Next Up: WSU will return home and stay home for the next three matches. First up, WSU will host Northern Colorado Sat. Oc. 5 at 7:00 p.m. before hosting Portland State and Sacramento State the following week for Weber State's homecoming.
