Weber State falls in three sets to Northern Colorado

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball took on Northern Colorado Thursday night and got swept in three sets.
How it happened: The Bears jumped out to an early 9-5 lead over the Wildcats in the first set. Northern Colorado maintained the lead over Weber State and pulled out the first set win 25-18.
Weber State kicked it up in the second set. The two teams started out evenly with a 6-6 score. The Bears put together a 5-1 run, however, Weber State answered with a 5-1 run to make the set interesting once again. Later, the set tied at 16-16 and a block by Aubrey Saunders-Adams and Dani Nay gave Weber State the lead for the first time in the match.
The two teams matched each other point for point up until the score was 23-23. The Bears were able to reach the 25 mark first to take the 25-23 victory.
Weber State started the third set with a 7-4 lead but Northern Colorado tied it up and the two teams played the point-for-point game yet again. Saunders-Adams had a big kill that sparked a 9-3 run for WSU. Dani Nay had back-to-back kills and Gneiting had a service ace in that run. With the momentum in Weber State's favor, they pushed on towards a 20-16 lead.
Northern Colorado came up with a big surge at the end of the third set to take a 25-23 third set win and an overall three-set clean sweep over the Wildcats.
Killing It: Weber State had just one Wildcat with double-digit kills. Kennedy Williams led the way with 10. Sam Schiess had the match-high hitting percentage ending the night with .353 from eight kills and 17 total attacks with just two errors.
Ashlyn Power had 31 assists on the match. Weber State had five service aces.
Digging it: Weber State had just one Wildcat with double-digit digs. Helena Khouri recorded 10 on the night. This is Khouri's ninth match in a row recording double-figure digs.
Blocking it: Saunders-Adams and Williams led the power on the net, each having three total blocks. Williams had two solo blocks for the high.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 10-5 overall on the season and 1-3 in Big Sky Conference play. This is the second three-set match Weber State has lost this season.
Next Up: WSU will stay home for the next two matches. First up, WSU will host Portland State and Sacramento State for Weber State's homecoming.
