Wildcats set to host Portland State and Sac State

THE MATCHES
•  The Weber State volleyball team continues the 2019 season with a pair of Big Sky matches. WSU will take on Portland State and Sacramento State.

•  First serve for the Portland State match will be Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m.

QUICK HITS
•  Weber State currently holds a 10-5 record. Weber State is on a one match losing streak.

•  Sam Schiess earned Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week for her stellar performance at the Missouri State Fall Invitational.

•  WSU hosted the Wildcat Invitational to start the season and came away as tournament champions. There were three teams with a 2-1 record but the Wildcats overall set winning percentage gave them the tournament title.

•  The Wildcats were picked No. 2 in the Big Sky preseason polls.

•  Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen is in his fifth season leading the Wildcats and brought back assistant coach Kayla Morgan and hired on a new assistant coach in Matt Kuelpman.

•  Weber State brought back two First Team All-Conference players in Megan Gnieiting and Hannah DeYoung.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
•  Weber State currently sits at No. 40 in the nation in team total blocks with 146.5 total on the year.

•  WSU is also No. 25  in the nation in blocks per set averaging 2.62.

•  Ashlyn Power  is No. 41  in the nation in assists per set averaging 10.54.

DOUBLE UP
•  Weber State has had three Wildcats record double-doubles.

•  Ashlyn Power leads the way with six double-doubles this season.

•  Against Northern Arizona, WSU had three record double-doubles.
Gneiting had 12 kills and 14 digs, Roberts had 11 kills and 17 digs and Power had 42 assists and 10 digs.

•  Most recently against, Idaho State  Megan Gneiting had 11 kills and 13 digs while Ashlyn Power posted a 53 assists and 12 digs.


D-I-G WHAT'S THAT SPELL?
•  Helena Khouri has recorded double digit digs 11 different times this season. She is currently on a nine match streak of recording double digit digs.

HITTING NEW HIGHS
•  Weber State's Kennedy Williams and Dani Nay have been powerhouse killers. Both reaching new career highs in kills and attacks.
~ Against Idaho State, Nay breached the milestone against Idaho State with 45 attacks and 18 kills.
~ Against Idaho State, Williams reached new heights with 46 attacks and 19 kills.
 

PSU Quick Hits: 

Portland State comes into the weekend with a 7-8 overall record and a 3-1 Big Sky record. 

They are on a three game winning streak. 

Michael Seemann leads the Vikings and is in his 13th year as Head Coach.

Weber State trails in the all-time series against PSU with a 18-39 record. 

WSU is on a three game winning streak in the series. 

WSU is 12-14 when taking on Portland in Ogden. 

WSU is 4-4 against the Vikings under head coach Jeremiah Larsen's tenure. 

The last time the two teams met up was in 2018. WSU won both matches in the regular season, one in five sets and the other in three. 
 

Sacramento State Quick Hits: 

Sac State came into the weekend with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-2 Big Sky record. 

They are on a one game winning streak. 

Ruben Volta leads the Hornets and is in his 12th season.

Weber State trails in the all-time series against Sac State with an 11-38 record. 

WSU is on a one game winning streak in the series with Sac State. 

WSU is 6-17 when taking on Sac in Ogden. 

WSU is 1-7 against the Hornets  under head coach Jeremiah Larsen's tenure. 

The last time the two teams met up was in 2018. WSU split the series, most recently with a four set win in Ogden.
