OGDEN, UT – The Weber State University women's soccer team picked up a disappointing 1-0 loss to Eastern Washington University this afternoon at Wildcat Soccer Field.
Despite starting the game with good rhythm and energy, the Wildcats unfortunately fell to a 1-0 deficit in the 15th minute of play due to an own goal that ricocheted off a WSU player and into the goal. Though down on the scoreboard, Weber State did not give up, and put up four shots in the first half. The half ended 1-0 for the Eagles.
Eastern Washington's physical play took a toll on Weber State in the second half. The Wildcats struggled to gain offensive momentum, and shot the ball twice to the Eagle's five shots. Eastern Washington held Weber State scoreless in the second half to end the game 1-0 for the Eagles.
"The bottom line is that we got outplayed by a strong Eastern Washington team. We certainly didn't play the way we are capable, and today they made us pay for that," said Interim Head Coach Meagan Thunell.
Weber State (2-10-1 overall, 1-3-1 Big Sky) will take on the Idaho State Bengals next Sunday, October 20th at 1:00 pm MDT at Wildcat Soccer Field for senior day.
