'Cats beat Vandals 41-35 in Big Sky opener

The Wildcats started the scoring with a 54-yard touchdown run by Josh Davis with 10:06 left in the first quarter. After WSU forced a fumble, Trey Tuttle connected on a 45-yard field goal to make it 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.Â

Tuttle came back with a 52-yard field goal, which tied his career-long, early in the second half to make it 13-0 with 10:33 left in the second quarter.Â

Idaho scored back-to-back touchdowns to take a 14-13 lead before Jake Constantine hit Devon Cooley with a nine-yard touchdown in the final minute of the first half to make it 20-14 at halftime.Â

Kevin Smith started the second half scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run to make it 27-14 before Idaho came back to cut it to 27-21.Â

Late in the third quarter, Weber State ran a fake field goal which Doug Lloyd ran for a 30-yard touchdown to make it 34-21.Â

Kris Jackson scored on an 18-yard touchdown run with 1:24 to play before Idaho returned the kickoff 97-yards for a touchdown. The Wildcats stopped the on-sides kick and held on for the win.Â

Idaho totaled 405 yards of offense, compared to 386 for Weber State. The Wildcats rushed for 223 yards and threw for 163.

Individually, Jake Constantine returned at quarterback and was 20 of 36 passing for 163 yards and one touchdown. Jackson led the rushing attack with 84 yards and a touchdown, while Smith had 64 yards. Davis rushed for 63 yards before leaving the game for concussion protocol.Â

Devon Cooley had nine receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown.Â

On defense, George Tarlas had six tackles with two sacks and two forced fumbles. Noah Vaea led the defense with 10 tackles.Â

It was Weber State's first game against the Vandals since 1995.Â
Â
The Wildcat (3-2, 1-0) return home for back-to-back home games, beginning with Southern Utah on Saturday in the annual Homecoming game at Weber State.
