Weber State picks up three set sweep over Portland State

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball stayed true to power as they downed Portland State in three sets Saturday night. 

What head coach Jeremiah Larsen said: "Getting a sweep of these two teams is a good feeling. I thought we managed our highs and lows and were composed all weekend which is crucial we prepare for the conference tournament."

How it happened: Weber State started the first set with an 8-3 lead. WSU pushed on for a 19-15 lead. WSU ended the set with a 5-1 run with a kill by Hannah Hill-DeYoung solidifying a 25-19 first set win. 

Early in the second set, Weber State went put together an 8-2 run but Portland State eventually came up and tied the set 13-13. The Wildcats proceeded to dominate only allowing the Vikings to score three more points the remainder of the set. The Wildcats claimed the second set 25-16. 

The Wildcats had all the momentum going into the third set and it showed as WSU jumped out with an 11-4 lead. Weber State didn't hold back as they pushed forward for a 25-18 third set win. 

 Killing It: Weber State had two Wildcats hit double figures. Megan Gneiting and Dani Nay each had 10 kills. Gneiting hit .320 on the night with just two errors and 25 attacks. 

Aubrey Saunders-Adams also had an impressive percentage as she had nine kills from 185 attacks with one error for .444 on the night. 

In total, Weber State had 38 kills from 109 attacks and 10 errors for a .257 percentage on the night. 

Digging it: Helena Khouri led WSU in digs with 16 on the night. Katelyn Erwin added 13. WSU had 63 total digs for the Wildcats defensive efforts. 

Notes to know: WSU is now 20-7 overall on the season and 11-5 in Big Sky play. This is the first time since 2008 Weber State has had a 20 win season and only the seventh time in school history. 

Next Up: Weber State will return home for the final regular season games of the season Nov. 21 and Nov. 23. 

Weber State has punched their ticket to the Big Sky tournament which starts Nov. 28 in Sacramento, Calif.
