'Cats fall 69-68 to Murray State at Gulf Coast Showcase

ESTERO, Fla. - Weber State dropped its second game of the Gulf Coast Showcase with a 69-68 defeat to Murray State Tuesday afternoon at the Hertz Arena.

Murray State led 36-28 at halftime and led by as many as 11 points with 14:58 to play but the Wildcats fought back to cut the lead to 59-55 with 6:17 to play. 

With the Racers lead by six with 4:52 to play, the Wildcats went on an 11-2 lead and took the lead at 68-65 with 1:32 to play following a Jerrick Harding three-point play. Murray State scored the game's final four points to seal the win. 

Murray State shot 61 percent from the field, compared to 43 percent for the Wildcats. The Racers outrebounded Weber State 21-20 but the Wildcats forced 19 Murray State turnovers, which Weber State turned into 20 points. WSU also made 11 3-pointers and had four blocked shots. 

Cody John led the Wildcats with 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Jerrick Harding had 18 points and grabbed three rebounds. 

Kham Davis had eight points and a game-high seven rebounds, and Michal Kozak also added eight points with two blocked shots. Freshman guard Judah Jordan returned to the lineup after missing Monday's game with an injury and had a career-high six assists, along with four points and three rebounds.  

"I'm proud of our effort," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "I thought we fought hard against another good team. We were very physical and rebounded really well. We're facing a difficult schedule but making progress and starting to get our feel."

The Wildcats will conclude the Gulf Coast Showcase Wednesday taking on Northeastern University. Tipoff will at 9:00 a.m. Mountain time.
