ESTERO, Fla. - Weber State rallied back from an early first half deficit but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats dropped the final game of the Gulf Coast Showcase 79-69 to Northeastern Wednesday.
The Huskies shot 55 percent from the field and knocked down 15 3-pointers. Northeastern jumped off to a fast start and led 17-3, less than five minutes into the game. NU led again by as many as 20 at 30-10 midway through the first half and the Huskies made eight of their first nine 3-point field goal attempts.
Northeastern led 47-29 at halftime after shooting 71 percent. Weber State shot 60 percent from the field in the second half and rallied to cut the lead to nine points with 13:27 to play but that was as close as the Wildcats would get.
"In the first half, their speed and athleticism shocked us a bit," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "We adjusted to it and played a lot better in the second half and looked like we should look. There were some stretches where we struggled but we did make progress on this trip and are growing as a team. We showed signs of improvement and the results will come."
Weber State ended the game shooting 51 percent from the field, the best shooting percentage against a Division I team this season. WSU was 8 of 21 from 3-point range and had a season-high nine steals.
