Weber State sweeps NAU in three sets in Big Sky semifinals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Weber State volleyball made history Friday afternoon as WSU downed Northern Arizona in three sets in the Big Sky Tournament's semifinal round. WSU is set to compete in the Big Sky Championship match for the second time in school history.
What head coach Jeremiah Larsen said: "That's the most complete game we've played ever. We were composed. We played with conviction. We beat a really good Northern Arizona team."
How it happened: Northern Arizona got a 14-10 jump on Weber State in the first set. WSU answered with an 8-1 run to tie up the set and then take an 18-15 lead. The Wildcats were the first team to reach 20. Megan Gneiting slammed down a kill through NAU's blockers to take the Wildcats to set point. For the first set 25-21 win, Dani Nay dropped a kill at the 10 foot line on NAU's side.
Weber State got a quick 7-2 jump on NAU in the second set. WSU later put together a 6-0 run. As a part of that run, Rylin Roberts found power putting together four consecutive kills to help WSU take a 12-5 lead. WSU maintained the momentum in the second set and NAU never overtook the lead or tied it up as the Wildcats took the second set 25-15.
The third set was competitive between both teams. Weber State tied the set up at 12-12 which was the start of a 7-2 run. The Lumberjacks gave WSU a fight at the end of the third set but the Wildcats prevailed for the 25-21 third set win and three set match sweep.
Killing It: Weber State was led by Rylin Roberts who had 14 kills from 36 attacks with just three errors for a .306 percentage. Gneiting added 10 kills from 25 swings with two errors for a .320 hitting percentage. Nay was the last Wildcat to crack double digit kills with her 10.
Weber State finished the match with 48 total kills from 122 attacks with 13 errors for a .287 percentage.
Digging it: Weber State had four Wildcats dig out double digit digs. WSU was led by Roberts who had 16. Helena Khouri had 12, Katelyn Erwin had 11 and Ashlyn Power had 10.
In total, WSU had 60 digs.
Blocking it: There were two Wildcats with five or more blocks on the night. Gneiting and Hannah DeYoung each rocked five block assists. WSU racked up 18 block assists and nine total team blocks.
Doubling it: Power recorded her 15th double-double on the year with 39 assists and 10 digs. Roberts had her 10th double-double with her 14 kills and 16 digs.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 24-7 overall on the season. The 24 wins is tied for the second most wins in school history in a single season. This is the second time in school history Weber State will have competed in a Big Sky Championship match. This is the first time in school history WSU has won a semi final match.
Next Up: The Wildcats will compete for the Big Sky Championship Saturday, Nov. 30 at 8:00 p.m. (MT) against the winner of Northern Colorado and Montana State.
