Wildcats fall to Eagles in Big Sky opener

OGDEN - Weber State dropped a heartbreaker in the Big Sky opener as the Wildcats fell 79-77 to Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.Â

The Eagles led by as many as 16 points early in the second half before the Wildcats fought back.
A 12-4 Wildcat run midway through the first half cut the lead to four points at 64-60 with 7:08 to play. The Eagles led 77-68 with 2:51 to play before a 7-0 WSU run cut the lead to 77-75 with 22 seconds to play. But the Eagles made two free throws down the stretch and held on for their third-straight win in Ogden.Â

Weber State shot 50 percent from the field, compared to 43 percent for the Eagles and the Wildcats outrebounded EWU 36-34. Eastern Washington knocked down 10 3-pointers, while the Wildcats were 5 of 19 from 3-point range.Â

Jerrick Harding led the Wildcats with 26 points along with five rebounds and two assists. He was 10 of 20 from the field and reached 20 points for the seventh time this season.Â

Cody John added 15 points and a team-high four assists and Michal Kozak had 11 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double-double.Â

Both Harding and Kham Davis went down with injuries in the final minutes.Â

The Wildcats are right back home Monday night to host the Idaho Vandals at 7 p.m.
