Weber State season lives on thanks to five set win over Wyoming

Laramie, Wyo. – Weber State volleyball lives to see another day after a competitive five set victory over the University of Wyoming Friday night.
How it happened: Weber State and Wyoming started off close in score and leap frogged as the leader throughout the majority of the set. Late in the set, WSU went on a 7-1 run to put the Wildcats at set point. Wyoming came up with three consecutive points to tie the first game up at 24-24. The game of leap frog continued and Wyoming eventually powered through to down the Wildcats 28-26 in the first set.
In the second set, the Wildcats got a 12-7 lead over the Cowgirls. Weber State maintained that lead for a 19-13 score. Wyoming went on a 9-3 run to tie the game up at 22-22. Wyoming was able to get to set point first, however WSU had three consecutive points including kills from Rylin Roberts and Aubrey Adams to take a 26-24 second set win.
Weber State put together a 6-1 run in the third set to take a 15-12 lead. The Wildcats were the first to reach the 20 point milestone in the third set. WSU scored four consecutive points to get to set point and despite a Cowgirl to hold it off, WSU pulled out the third set victory with a 25-18 score. WSU had the 2-1 match lead going into the fourth set.
Wyoming jumped out to an early 9-4 lead over Weber State. The momentum remained in Wyoming's favor as the Cowgirls went on to claim the fourth set 25-16.
Weber State was the first to eight in the fifth set thanks to a kill by Dani Nay. The Wildcats pushed on and took the fifth set 15-11.
Killing it: Weber State was led by Nay who had 22 kills from 56 attacks with four errors for a .321 percentage. There were three other Wildcats who recorded double figure kills. Roberts ended the night with 15. Aubrey Saunders-Adams had a season high with 13 and Megan Gneiting had 11. In total, WSU had 67 kills from 195 attacks with 23 errors for a .226 percentage on the night.
Digging it: Helena Khouri led WSU from the back row with a career high of 27 digs. Ashlyn Power helped out WSU 16 digs, Katelyn Erwin had 14 and Gneiting ended the night with 11. In total, Weber State had 80 digs.
Blocking it: DeYoung led Weber State with seven total blocks. The Wildcats ended with 10 total team blocks.
Doubling it: Weber State had two Wildcats hit double doubles. Gneiting had 11 kills and 11 digs while Power had 62 assists with 16digs.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 26-8 overall on the season. The 26 wins is second in school history in most wins in a single season.
Next Up: The Wildcats will advance to the third round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship tournament and will face off against Tulsa. The date, time and place of the match are still to be determined.
