SACRAMENTO - Playing short-handed Weber State led most of the game, but Sacramento State's two free throws with one second left gave the Hornets a 78-76 win over the Wildcats  Thursday night at the Nest.

The Wildcats were playing junior guard Jerrick Harding who missed the game with an ankle injury.

The loss dropped WSU to 16-11 overall and 10-6 in conference play with four games remaining in the regular season.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start and led by as many as 12 points in the first half after starting 6 of 7 from 3-point range. WSU led 37-31 at halftime.

The Hornets outscored the 'Cats 47-39 in the second half. Weber State was called for a foul with one second left in the game and Sacramento State's Ethan Esposito made two free throws to seal the win for the Hornets.

"It's obviously tough to come in here without Jerrick but our team didn't flinch and played their absolute tails off," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "We fought like crazy and did everything we wanted to it was just a tough, tough ending. We're going to start playing our best basketball pretty darn soon, we've just got to do it with everyone practicing."

Weber State shot 49 percent from the field and knocked down 13 3-pointers for the second-straight game. Sacramento State outrebounded the Wildcats 43-31 and had 14 second-chance points.

Freshman Caleb Nero led the Wildcats with 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting and had three assists. Brekkott Chapman had his ninth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Cody John added 15 points and Israel Barnes had 10 points.

The Wildcats did get senior Zach Braxton back in the lineup after missing three games with an injury. Braxton had two points, two rebounds and a blocked shot in 17 minutes of action.

The Wildcats have the weekend off and will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 28 at Northern Colorado.
