It was a great weekend for two Weber State track and field standouts at the Los Angeles Marathon. Former Wildcat runners Lindsey Anderson and Taylor Ward were the two American finishers at Sunday's race.
Anderson, a Weber State Hall of Famer and former Olympian, finished sixth overall with a time of 2:34.45 in the event and was the top American finisher. Anderson was a two-time All-American and six-time Big Sky individual champion during her Weber State career from 2004-07. She also competed in the steeplechase at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the first Weber State athlete to compete in the Olympics. She is currently the head cross country and distance coach at the College of Southern Idaho.
Ward finished ninth overall with a time of 2:36.27 in the event. She was a four-year runner at Weber State from 2009-14. She won one Big Sky title, was a six-time All-Big Sky performer and twice competed at the NCAA Championships. She is now a radiological sciences professor at Weber State.
Both athletes are now qualified for the US Olympic trials next year in Atlanta. Both are also currently trained by Weber State women's track and field head coach Paul Pilkington.
More than 24,000 people participated in this year's LA Marathon with runners from all 50 states and 66 nations.
