Wildcats fall 2-1 to Colorado College in exhibition match

8/15/2019 11:39:00 PM | Women's Soccer

OGDEN – The Weber State University women's soccer team wrapped up fall camp week with an exciting exhibition match against Colorado College at Wildcat Soccer Field. In the fourth match-up between the two teams, the Wildcats fell to the Tigers 2-1.

Colorado College found the back of the net in the 16thminute with a goal from Jenna Wilt. Soon after, in the 24th minute, junior Mylee Broad scored a left-foot upper-90 slammer to tie the game.  "There were a few players who really stood out, and Mylee Broad was one of them. I think that she was very dynamic up front, created some good chances, and had a really nice goal," said interim head coach, Meagan Thunell.

The teams played three 30 minute periods, and had unlimited substitutions. Because of this flexibility, 25 of the 29 Wildcat players were able to gain valuable game experience. "In an exhibition match it's always good to see multiple combinations of players, and to see a lot of players we wouldn't normally see in a regular game," said Thunell "I think there were some really good moments where we were executing things we had worked on in practice."

The Tigers broke through the Wildcat defense again in the 41st minute when Lucia Costanza dished Coley Lyubenk a ball that she slid past WSU's goalkeeper.

Though the exhibition match brought a loss, the Wildcats are looking to the future. The next three games are against notable Pac-12 teams, and they're all on the road. "We always approach the pre-conference schedule as an opportunity to play against good competition," said Thunell "if you don't play against quality teams, you aren't giving yourself the best chance to be firing on all cylinders when conference play starts. "

The Wildcats hit the road next week to play the Cal Bears on Thursday, August 22nd at 5:00 p.m (MT) in Berkeley, CA.
