Wildcats fall 6-0 to Aztecs in season opener

SAN DIEGO - In a defensive battle throughout the game, San Diego State defeated Weber State 6-0 in the 2019 season opener Saturday night at SDCCU Stadium.Â

Two SDSU field goals, one in the second quarter and one early in the fourth quarter was the only scoring on the night.Â
Â
The Aztecs totaled 238 yards, compared to 154 for Weber State. The Wildcats threw for 119 yards, rushed for 35 yards and finished with five first downs. WSU's defense accounted for five tackles for loss, one sack and six pass breakups.Â

"San Diego State is a good football team and they made a few more plays than we did and that was the difference," said WSU head coach Jay Hill. "This one hurts but it was great to get tested against a great team like that, but there are no moral victories."

Individually, Preston Smith and Conner Mortensen each finished with seven tackles. Jared Schiess had four tackles with two tackles for loss and McKade Mitton recorded one sack.Â

Jake Constantine finished 21 of 31 passing for 119 yards. Kris Jackson led the rushing attack with 14 yard, and Devon Cooley had two catches for 39 yards.Â

The Wildcats return home for the opener at Stewart Stadium on Saturday, hosting Cal Poly at 6 p.m.Â
