FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Weber State lost its first game of 2020 and first Big Sky road game as the Wildcats fell 72-64 at Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon in Flagstaff.Â
Â
NAU shot 57 percent from the field, knocked down nine 3-pointers, and outrebounded Weber State 31-21. The Wildcats shot 46 percent from the field.Â
Â
The Lumberjacks led 36-30 at halftime but the Wildcats rallied and took a 59-56 lead with 5:22 to play. NAU closed the game on a 16-5 run, including four free throws in the final minute to secure the win.Â
Â
"We came out in the second half and fought like crazy to give ourselves a chance, but couldn't get the breaks we needed down the stretch," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "Overall I thought we did well on defense, but you have to give NAU credit for making the shots."
Â
Cody John led Weber State with 24 points, just one off his career-high which was in Flagstaff last year. John was 9 of 16 from the field and also made three 3-pointers and dished out three assists.Â
Â
Michal Kozak added 14 points with a game-high eight rebounds and also added four assists. KJ Cunningham had seven points, five assists and four rebounds, while Judah Jordan had seven points and a career-high five steals.Â
Â
Jerrick Harding returned to the lineup after missing Monday's game with an ankle injury and finished with six points.Â
Â
The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Wildcats over the Lumberjacks and is also NAU's first win over Weber State in Flagstaff in 12 years. The Wildcats had won the previous 10 games at NAU.Â
Â
Weber State falls to 5-9 on the season and 1-2 in Big Sky play. The 'Cats return home to host Northern Colorado next Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.Â
