Wildcats fall 65-64 in heartbreaker to UNC

OGDEN - The Wildcats lost a heartbreaker 65-64 to Northern Colorado Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. 
 
How it happened
Northern Colorado led by one at halftime but the Wildcats started the second half on a 10-4 run and took a five-point lead early in the second half. There were eight lead changes down the stretch. The Wildcats went ahead by three points with 1:30 to play after a Michal Kozak layup. The Bears scored back-to-back layups and took the lead with 26 seconds left. 
 
Jerrick Harding made a jumper with 13 seconds left, but Northern Colorado's Kai Edwards made a layup with four seconds left to give the win to the Bears, UNC's first ever win at the Dee Events Center. 
 
Inside the box score
Weber State shot 43 percent from the field and held the Bears to 36 percent shooting. Both teams were 8 of 25 from 3-point range. UNC outrebounded the Wildcats 43-32. 
 
Michal Kozak had a carer game for the Wildcats. The junior had 13 points, a career-high 18 rebounds, a career-high seven blocks and tied his career-high with four assists. The seven blocked shots ties the Weber State school record. 
 
Jerrick Harding led the 'Cats with 21 points on 8 of 16 shooting. He knocked down three 3-pointers and had three steals and two assists, while playing all 40 minutes. 
 
Cody John added 12 points and Israel Barnes had eight. WSU had just two points off the bench. 
 
Quoting coach Randy Rahe
"That one was tough. I was really proud of our team. They played their hearts out and executed the game plan and did everything we needed, we just came up one play short. They are showing some good toughness and grit, and eventually the results will come our way."
 
Up next
WSU falls to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in Big Sky play. The Wildcats will play their next three games on the road starting Saturday night at Sacramento State.
