Weber State takes down Northern Colorado 65-60

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball powered through and took down Northern Colorado 65-60 Thursday night.
What head coach Velaida Harris said: "Great win tonight. It was probably our most complete defensive effort of the year. THe ladies stuck to the game plan and it allowed us to play at our pace. If you look at the stat line you'll see that it was a total team effort. Multiple kids in double digits, 15 offensive boards and a very solid fourth quarter. Our goal was to keep the pressure on them all night and we did that. Proud of this groups energy and high level of communication tonight. Everyone contributed."
How it happened: Weber State jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter thanks to an 11-4 Wildcat run. Northern Colorado came up with a surge and tied the game 17-17.
The second quarter started out with a three minute scoring drought from both teams. Weber State didn't score for the first six minutes in the second quarter but redeemed themselves by going on a 12-4 run to end the half. WSU only trailed 30-29 at the half.
The Wildcats ended up outscoring Northern Colorado 17-16 in the third quarter and tied it up at 46-46. It all came down to the fourth quarter.
With 3:39 remaining in the game, Weber State went on a 7-0 run to take a 63-57 lead. Weber State maintained and came away with a 65-60 victory over the Bears.
Leaders: Weber State had four Wildcats score in double figures and were led by Kayla Watkikns who had 14 points. Liz Graves was close behind with 13 points. Kori Pentzer had 12 points while Jadyn Matthews added 10.
Graves ended the night with a double double pulling down the game high rebounds with 12.
Comparison: Weber State shot 34 percent from the field, 36 percent from the three and 69 percent from the free throw line. WSU ended the game with 46 total rebounds.
Northern Colorado shot 40 percent from the field, 35 percent from the three point line and 58 percent from the line. The Bears ended the night with 35 total rebounds.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 3-10 overall on the season and 1-3 in Big Sky Conference play.
Up Next: Weber State will return home to host Sac State Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
