Weber State second half struggle leads to 78-46 loss to Montana

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball fell to Montana Thursday afternoon in the annual Field Trip day with a final score of 78-46.
How it happened: Weber State started the game holding Montana scoreless for 2:30. WSU hung tight and stayed close for most of the first quarter until UM went on a 10-3 run. WSU trailed 18-15 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, WSU trailed just 22-20 with six minutes remaining in the first half. The Wildcats couldn't overcome and take the lead and trailed 35-28 at the half.
Weber State came out with strong defense holding Montana to just one made field goal for the first four minutes of the second half. WSU couldn't get any offense to spark in that time. Montana finally broke free of WSU's defensive hold and took off on a 13-2 run. By the end of the third quarter, WSU trailed 56-36.
WSU struggled to find offense in the fourth quarter and Montana continued on a hot streak. Montana came away with a 78-46 victory over Weber State.
Leaders: Kayla Watkins led WSU with 14 points. Ula Chamberlin also put up double digits with 11. Jadyn Matthews led the Wildcats on the boards with 11.
Comparison: Weber State shot 28 percent from the field, 15 percent from the three and 70 percent from the free throw line. WSU ended the game with 39 total rebounds, 19 turnovers and nine assists. WSU had 22 points in the paint and six off the bench.
Montana shot 49 percent from the field, 35 percent from the three point line and 62 percent from the line. The Griz ended the night with 40 total rebounds, 13 assists and 12 turnovers. UM had 36 points in the paint and 34 off the bench and capitalized on 22 points from turnovers.
Notes to know: Weber State is now 3-20 overall on the season and 1-13 in Big Sky Conference play.
