Weber State controls first half but falls 58-52 to Sac State

Weber State women's basketball controlled the first half but fell short in the second to fall 58-52 to Sac State. 

How it happened:Weber State controlled the entirety of the first half. After trailing 9-5, WSU came up with a massive 18-0 run and held Sac State scoreless for over five minutes in the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats had a 20-9 lead over the Hornets. 

The second quarter was slow in scoring for both teams but Weber State maintained the lead for a 31-19 lead at halftime. 

Sac State picked up a groove in the third quarter outscoring WSU 19-10. The Wildcats still had a 41-38 lead going into the final quarter of play. 

Within the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, Sac State tied the game up at 44-44. The Hornets then pushed on to take a 53-46 lead with five minutes remaining in the game. WSU brought it back and trailed by just three points as the final minute counted down but Sac pulled away with the 58-52 win. 

Leaders: Ula Chamberlin pulled away with 13 points to lead WSU on the night. Liz Graves and Kayla Watkins each contributed 11 points to the Wildcats' final score. Jadyn Matthews had a big night on the boards rocking 11. It's the third time this season Matthews has recorded double digit rebounds. 

Comparison: Weber State shot 32 percent from the field, six percent from the three and 69 percent from the free throw line. WSU ended the game with 49 total rebounds, 17 turnovers and 12 assists. WSU had 26 points in the paint and 21 off the bench. 

Sac State shot 33 percent from the field, 23 percent from the three point line and 52 percent from the line. The Hornets ended the night with 43 total rebounds, nine assists and 13 turnovers. Sac had 30 points in the paint and three off the bench.

Notes to know: Weber State is now 3-18 overall on the season and 1-11 in Big Sky Conference play. WSU held Sac State to just 58 points which is the Hornets fourth lowest scoring game this season.
