Wildcats fall to Eagles in Big Sky finale

Eastern Washington clinched the Big Sky Conference regular season title and knocked off Weber State 78-69 Saturday afternoon at Reese Court in the final game of the season.Â
The loss drops the Wildcats to 12-19 overall and 8-12 in conference action. WSU is the No. 8 seed for the Big Sky Tournament and will take on No. 9 seed Sacramento State on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in Boise.Â
The Eagles won their seventh straight game and secured the conference title with a 16-4 record to earn the No. 1 seed in the Big Sky Tournament.Â
How it happened
Eastern Washington jumped out to a 17-10 lead before the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run to take a 22-17 lead with 7:41 to play. The Eagles closed out the half on a run and took a 40-35 lead at halftime.Â
The Wildcats cut the lead to two points early on before a 7-0 Eastern Washington run extended the lead to 49-40. Weber State rallied back to tie the game at 59-59 with 11:33 remaining.
From there the Eagles went on a quick 10-0 run and the WIldcats never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.Â

Eastern Washington knocked down 13 3-pointers, the second-most allowed by the Wildcats this season. EWU shot 44 percent and the Wildcats shot 43 percent from the field, and the Eagles outrebounded the Wildcats 41-38.Â
Four Wildcats scored in double figures led by Jerrick Harding with 18 points and dished out a team-high four assists. Cody John added 15 points and seven rebounds, playing all 40 minutes. Tim Fuller had 11 points, while Michal Kozak added 10 points and seven rebounds, while also playing all 40 minutes. Dima Zdor had six points, five rebounds and four blocked shots.Â
The game was the fourth game in the last eight days for the Wildcats.Â

"We laid it all on the line with a tough, gutsy performance. We got tired in the second half and Eastern Washington made a push but I'm so proud of our team and their effort. They just kept fighting like crazy and gave a terrific effort. We need some rest but I know we'll be ready to go in the tournament."
