WSU drops conference road game 78-57 at EWU

A big run toward the end of the game led Eastern Washington to a 78-57 win over Weber State Thursday night at Reese Court in Cheney, Washington.
The Eagles led 40-26 at halftime but Weber State started the third quarter on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to seven. WSU cut the lead to five points at 47-42 with 2:48 left in the third quarter, before Eastern Washington went on a 22-7 run and led by 20 points at 69-49 with 5:38 remaining.
The Wildcats shot 32 percent from the field, compared to 40 percent for the Eagles. WSU was just 4 of 21 from 3-point range, while Eastern Washington was 14 of 32 from 3-point range. Weber State did outrebound the Eagles 44-35 but the Wildcats committed 21 turnovers.
Emma Torbert led the Wildcats in scoring, finishing with a season-high 15 points. She also tied for a team-high eight rebounds and had two blocks and one steal. Torbert now leads the Wildcats in scoring at 10.5 points per game and rebounding at 6.8 per game.
Shianne Johnson added 1- points with five rebounds and three steals. Daryn Hickok had eight points off the bench, Kori Pentzer added seven points and Jadyn Matthews had six points and eight rebounds.
The two teams will play again in Cheney on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. Mountain time. WSU is in the midst of playing four-straight games on the road.
