• It's back to football for Weber State and another nationally ranked showdown. After a bye week, Weber State is back home to host Montana State in a Friday night key Big Sky game. Friday's game will kickoff at 8 p.m. at Stewart Stadium and will be televised nationally on ESPNU. It will also be available to subscribers on the ESPN app. WSU radio coverage will be on 103.1 FM "The Wave" with live stats at WeberStateSports.com.
Homecoming and Throwback night
Friday's game will be the annual Homecoming game at Weber State University. It will also be the Throwback Night as Weber State will wear purple jersey tops with the "Go W" logo on the purple helmet. In addition, the first 2,500 fans to the game will receive a purple Throwback t-shirt, courtesy of UCCU.
How to watch Friday's game
As part of the new contract with ESPN, the Big Sky Conference has two regular season games televised on and ESPN network, and Friday's Weber State Montana State game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. Because it is on ESPNU, the game will not be available on ESPN+.
ESPNU is Channel 208 on DIRECTV, Channel 141 on Dish Network, Channel 400 on Comcast in Utah, and is available through many cable providers. Fans should verify they have access to ESPNU and receive ESPNU as part of their package.
Subscribers of ESPNU will be able to stream the game through the ESPN app, but will need to authenticate and verify their cable/satellite subscription.
Two nationally ranked teams
For the third time in four games, Weber State will face a nationally ranked team. Friday's game will feature two ranked teams as Montana State comes into the game 5-1 and ranked ninth in the nation.
Weber State is currently ranked 18th in the AFCA Coaches poll and 19th in the Stats Perform poll. The Wildcats have been nationally ranked in at least one poll every week since November 2016.
The Big Sky currently has five teams nationally ranked with three in the top 10.
Wildcats coming off win and a bye
Weber State snapped its two game losing streak with a dominating 38-7 win at Cal Poly on October 2, WSU's last game. The two teams were tied 7-7 before Weber State scored 31 straight points. The 'Cats totaled 364 yards of offense and held Cal Poly to just 115 total yards and just 31 yards rushing. The Wildcat defense recorded seven sacks and forced two fumbles.
Kylan Weisser threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 34 yards and two more touchdowns before leaving the game with a leg injury. Josh Davis rushed for 50 yards and Dontae McMillan rushed for 49 yards. The Wildcats had 12 different receivers catch passes.
On defense, Weber State was led by Conner Mortensen with six tackles, while Sherwin Lavaka and McKade Mitton each had four. WSU had seven sacks and forced two fumbles.
The Wildcats had a bye week last week before Friday's game with Montana State.
Jay Hill becomes Weber State's all-time winningest coach
With the win at Cal Poly, Weber State head coach Jay Hill became Weber State's all-time leader in coaching win. The win improved Hill's record to 54-34 in his eight seasons as head coach of the Wildcats, moving him past former head coach Dave Arslanian for the most wins ever.
Hill has transformed the Weber State program, leading the Wildcats to four straight Big Sky titles and five straight appearances in the FCS Playoffs. He was named the Big Sky Coach of the Year during the spring 2021 season and has been named the Region 5 Coach of the Year by the AFCA in each of the last two seasons. Hill is 40-15 in Big Sky games.
