Weber State coming off epic win at No. 2 Eastern Washington

Weber State is coming off a thrilling 35-34 win at No. 2 ranked Eastern Washington last Saturday in Cheney. The Wildcats trailed 21-13 early in the third quarter before scoring 22 straight points to lead 35-21 with 8:42 to play. The Eagles came back with two straight touchdowns but missed the extra points and the Wildcats held on for the one point win.

WSU held EWU's high-powered offense to a season-low 434 yards and also forced three Eastern Washington turnovers. Weber State had 482 yards off total offense, second-most of the season.

It was the first time the Wildcats have defeated a team ranked second or higher in the country since beating No. 2 Portland State in 2000.

Wildcats back in the national rankings

After Saturday's win, Weber State is back in the national rankings. The Wildcats are ranked 23rd in the latest Stats Perform and AFCA Coaches polls. WSU fell out of the national rankings last week for the first time since November 2016, snapping a streak of 56 straight polls in at least one of the rankings.

The Big Sky has six teams ranked in this week's polls. Montana State is sixth in the Stats poll with  Eastern Washington now seventh, UC Davis ninth, Montana 11th and Sacramento State 15th.

Past vs. future strength of schedule

Weber State has played one of the toughest schedules in the country through the first seven games of the season. The Wildcats have played five nationally ranked teams in the first seven games. All four of the ranked FCS teams have been ranked 12th or better, including two games against teams ranked second in the country.

So far this season, the Wildcats have faced the seventh toughest schedule in the country, based off past opposition winning percentage. The seven teams WSU has played are a combined 28-17 at this point of the season.

The four future opponents are currently a combined 8-22, a winning percentage of .267, which is the fifth easiest future opposition in the country.
