Wildcats cruise in exhibition win; Season begins Tuesday

Six players scored in double figures in 101-74 win.
OGDEN - It was back to basketball for the Weber State men's basketball team and the Wildcats rolled to victory in their only exhibition game before the 2021-22 season.
Weber State had six players in double figures and shot 56 percent from the field to defeat Concordia University-St. Paul 101-74 Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.
WSU had a terrific start to the game. The Wildcats made six of their first seven shots and jumped out to a 15-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. Weber State led 22-1 less than four minutes in.
The Wildcats shot 59 percent from the field in the first half and held a 56-21 lead at the break.
WSU took its largest lead at 41 points early in the second half and cruised to the win.
Weber State was 8 of 20 from 3-point range and outrebounded the Golden Bears 50-33. The Wildcats had 20 assists and 10 steals.
Senior transfer JJ Overton and Seikou Sisoho Jawara each had 13 points to lead the Wildcats. Dillon Jones finished with a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. He was 5 of 7 from the field and also added four assists and four steals.
Senior transfer Koby McEwen scored 11 points in 18 minutes of action and dished out four assists. Cody Carlson had 11 points in 11 minutes and was a perfect 5 of 5 from the field. Zahir Porter added 10 points off the bench and knocked down three 3-pointers. A total of 13 Wildcats scored in the game.
The 'Cats now prepare for the season opener which will be on Tuesday against Western Colorado.
Weber State returns four starters and 10 players off last year's team that finished 17-6 and was second in the Big Sky at 12-3. The Wildcats were picked to finish second in the Big Sky preseason polls.
Head coach Randy Rahe returns for his 16th season at Weber State and is WSU's and the Big Sky's all-time leader in coaching wins.
Weber State will have 15 regular season home games, including games against Utah State, BYU and Fresno State.
The 'Cats also play road games at Duquesne, Dixie State and Washington State, as well as three games at the Jersey Mike Classic in Florida.
The 'Cats will also face a 20-game Big Sky schedule with the conference tournament set for March 9-12 in Boise, Idaho.
