Wildcat men compete at Silver State Collegiate Challenge

2/1/2021 8:31:00 PM | Men's Cross Country

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Weber State men's cross country team competed very well at the Silver State Collegiate Challenge in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 1st. The men's 8K race was hosted by USA Track & Field--Nevada, and was held at the Craig Ranch Regional Park.

"It's been a busy weekend with the home indoor track meet and the cross country meet in Las Vegas," said men's head coach, Corbin Talley. "It was a loaded race with NAU, BYU, Washington, and Notre Dame--all teams that will likely finish top 10 in the NCAA this year. We're excited to be mixing it up with some of the best teams in the country."

The race featured many ranked schools, including Northern Arizona (1st), BYU (2nd), Notre Dame (3rd), Washington (18th), Air Force (27th). Weber State finished sixth with 158, just ahead of Boise State.

"We didn't look quite as sharp as we did to end the fall season, but be patient with us. We're putting some pieces back together and it was great to have this one to help us learn and give us some things to work for over the next month in preparation for the Big Sky Championships and a shot at qualifying for the NCAA meet."

Taylor Dillon finished 11th for the Wildcats with a time of 23:31.7, Christian Allen crossed the line 32nd at 24:05.4, Austin Bryer finished 35th at 24:12.5, Dallin Leatham came in 37th at 24:18.2, Bronson Winter finished 43rd at 24:48.8, and Krey Ramsey finished 44th with a time of 24:56.2.

"The guys fought hard--and we had some stellar performances by Taylor Dillon (11th) and Dallin Leatham who is bouncing back from an injury that started bothering him in December. Overall, we're thrilled to be getting opportunities. And I feel like the guys are racing with more heart and spirit and gratitude because of how challenging this past year was. By the time they caught their breath after the race, they were already hungry for more opportunities...this is an awesome group and we're very excited about 2021," said Talley,

The Weber State men's cross country team will continue their spring 2021 season at the Big Sky Championships on February 27th. The competition will be hosted by Weber State at the Riverside Golf Course in Riverdale, Utah.
