Wildcats beat Griz to improve to 4-0

MISSOULA, Mont. - Rylin Adams had 24 kills as Weber State picked up a two-match sweep of Montana and improved to 4-0 in Big Sky play for just the second time in school history. The Wildcats beat the Grizzlies 25-21, 25-14, 16-25, 28-26 Monday night at Dahlberg Arena.
Adams finished with season-highs of 24 kills and 17 digs and hit .375 to lead the Wildcats. Dani Nay added 15 kills and 15 digs.
The WIldcats won the first set 25-20 behind nine kills from Rylin Adams.
In the second set Montana jumped out to a 9-7 lead but it was all WIldcats after tha as WSU went on a big run and finished the set hitting .321.
Montana came back and won the third set 25-16. The fourth set was back and forth until the Wildcats closed the set with three-straight points for the 28-26 win.
Weber State hit .219 for the match, had a season-high 76 dis and tied a season-high with 55 kills. The 'Cats also had a season-high 20 blocks and had five service aces.
This is just the second time in school history the Wildcats have started the Big Sky season 4-0. The only other time that happened was in 1988.
The win also gave head coach Jeremiah Larsen a great birthday present.
"It's nice to be 4-0," Larsen said. "I think Montana played hard and exploited some things and we didn't respond very well to adversity. We need to learn some lessons and games like these are the best teachers. Hopefully we recognize and learn quickly."
Weber State will have the week off this week before the Wildcats return to Swenson Gym to host Southern Utah on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.
