OGDEN - Coach Randy Rahe often says you have to somehow find a way to win and that's exactly what the Wildcats did Thursday night as Weber State pulled out a wild 60-59 win over Northern Colorado at the Dee Events Center.Â
The win is the sixth-straight for the Wildcats who improved to 17-5 overall and 12-3 in Big Sky play with one game remaining.Â
Weber State is in second place in the Big Sky standings and still has a chance to win the league title, with some help. If the Wildcats beat Northern Colorado on Saturday and Southern Utah losses at Portland State, WSU will claim the conference title.Â
But first things first and the Wildcats had to get a win Thursday night, which wasn't easy. It was a hard fought game against Northern Colorado.Â
Northern Colorado led by five points at 55-50 with 4:16 to play. The Wildcats scored the next five points to tie the game at 55-55. The two teams traded buckets and then free throws and the game was tied 59-59 with nine seconds left. After UNC missed a shot, Michal Kozak was fouled with less than one second to play.Â
Kozak made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second to seal the 60-59 win. Â
Weber State shot a season-low 1 of 10 from 3-point range. WSU shot 42 percent from the field overall and was 13 of 15 from the free throw line. Â
Dillon Jones had a career-high 18 points for the Wildcats and led the team with nine rebounds. He was 7 of 10 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line.Â
Isiah Brown also added 18 points for the Wildcats.Â
The two teams will meet again Saturday at noon at the Dee Events Center in the final home game of the season for the Wildcats.Â
Tickets are available to the game by calling the WSU Ticket Office at 801-626-8500 or visiting WeberStateSports.com.
