Weber State Volleyball returns home to Swenson Gym this week to start its Big Sky Conference title defense and open the conference season. The Wildcats went 15-1 in Big Sky play last year and hope to repeat that same kind of success in the 2021 season.
In the Big Sky preseason coaches poll, Weber State was the unanimous number one selection. The Wildcats are coming out of what was perhaps the toughest out of conference schedule in school history, and strive to regain the form that carried them to their first NCAA tournament victory earlier this calendar year.
WEBER STATE
-The Wildcats set a school record home winning streak that has now been extended to 19 consecutive victories.
-Jeremiah Larsen currently has 97 wins as the head coach of Weber State, which gives him the second most wins for a head coach in Wildcat history.
-Weber State leads the Big Sky and ranks 44th in the nation for most aces per set (1.82).
-Outside hitter Dani Nay leads the conference and is ranked third in the nation for most aces per set (.74).
-Senior setter Ashlyn Power, Weber State's all-time leader in career assists (4,876), needs two more dimes to move into sixth place for most career assists in Big Sky history.
-Senior outside hitter Rylin Adams tops the Big Sky leaderboard in kills per set, averaging 3.95.
Â
PORTLAND STATE
-The Vikings have won five of their last six matches, their last defeat coming in the Viking Pavilion against UTEP on September 11th.
-This is PSU's first visit to Ogden since October 10th of 2019, a match that Weber State won 3-0.
-Although the Vikings lead the all-time series against Weber State, they have lost the last five matches that the teams have played against each other.
-Portland State swept the Big Sky Player of the Week honors last week, as outside hitter Parker Webb won offensive PotW, and middle blocker Genevieve Florig won the defensive award.
SACRAMENTO STATE
-After playing seven of their first eight matches at home, the Hornets are currently in the middle of a six-game road trip, four of which come against Big Sky Conference opponents.
-Sacramento State is constantly towards the top of the Big Sky standings, with a 70-29 conference record over the last six seasons.
-Opposite Tiya Kamba-Griffin leads the conference in blocks per set with a 1.32/set average.
