Wildcats Set to Honor Conference Championship Team, Play Two In-State Rivals

The Weber State Wildcats return home on Wednesday to face the defending WAC champion Utah Valley Wolverines, prior to heading to Salt Lake City for a contest against the #20 Utah Utes on Thursday.

Wednesday's match will be a celebration of Weber State's 2020-21 Big Sky Conference championship, as well as the school's first NCAA tournament win. There will be a ring ceremony and banner unveiling prior to the match which starts at 6:00. It is a white out game and fans are encouraged to wear white. UVU's 2020-21 WAC championship team will also be honored prior to the match. Tickets to the match are still available and can be purchased online or by calling Weber State's ticket office at 801-626-8500.

The following day, the Wildcats make the short journey south to Salt Lake City to take on the Utes in the Huntsman Center at 7:00. The competition against Utah will be Weber State's fourth in-state rivalry match out of its last five matches overall.

WEBER STATE

-The Wildcats are currently on an 18-match home win streak which is the longest in school history.
-Weber State currently leads the Big Sky Conference in hitting percentage (.254), assists per set (12.11), and kills per set (13.16).
-WSU returns all but one starter from its team that went 19-2 in the 2020-21 season, including the program's first two All-Americans, outside hitters Rylin Adams and Dani Nay, as well as the school's all-time leader in assists, setter Dani Nay.
-Adams, the reigning Big Sky Player of the Year, is tied for the Big Sky Conference lead in kills (83) and has the outright lead in kills per set (4.37). She had her career high in kills (25) against BYU last weekend.
-Nay leads the Big Sky Conference and ranks third in the nation in total aces with 18, and is fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.53).
-Power is the conference leader in assists per set with 10.32.
-Middle blocker Sam Schiess ranks first in the Big Sky Conference in hitting percentage (.425).

UTAH VALLEY

-The Wolverines and Wildcats have played each other 19 times in their history, UVU holds a 10-9 advantage in the series despite Weber State riding a three-game win streak dating back to 2017.
-UVU went 14-6 in the 2020-21 season and beat New Mexico State to win its first ever WAC championship, and advance to its first NCAA tournament, where it would lose to Texas State.
-Utah Valley was picked by WAC coaches to finish first in the conference, receiving four of seven total votes.
-In the 2020-21 season, Kazna Tanuvasa was named the WAC Player of the Year, UVU's first ever. She was also named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, and tabbed as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year.

#20 UTAH

-This will be the first time since 2012 that the Utes and Wildcats will square off against each other.
-The Utes have made the NCAA tournament in five consecutive seasons.
-Utah is led by senior outside hitter Dani Drews, who is a two-time First Team All-American and led the nation in kills per set (5.21) in 2020-21
-Utah has played and beaten Utah Valley twice this season.
-Beth Launiere leads the team for her 32nd season in Salt Lake City and has over 600 wins in her career.
