Wildcats Show Heart But Fall To Eagles
1/15/2022 9:12:00 PM | Women's Basketball
On Saturday afternoon the (7-9, 3-4) Weber State Wildcats overcame deficits but were unable to secure a victory in Cheney, WA over the Eastern Washington Eagles.Â
Heading into the game, WSU was hoping to snap a streak that's now jumped out to three losses after previously ascending towards red-hot status. WSU had secured two huge victories over their pair of conference foes from the state of Montana but they've since lost to the Idaho schools and EWU. In their latest outing, Emma Torbert returned to the floor after missing the previous game and her presence was felt on the hardwood.Â
Both offensively and defensively, Weber State looked much more comfortable with Torbert on the floor compared to when they were without her services against the Vandals. Torbert chipped in 16 points and pulled down 8 rebounds all while playing 37 minutes. Typically she gets more time to rest but she, along with her teammates was forced to play heavier minutes due to Ava Williams being out. At one point in the final frame, Torbert went on a personal 6-0 run as she drilled a three-pointer right after finishing a lay-up through contact and knocking down the free throw. The game's momentum began to lean towards the WSU sideline but ultimately the ball just didn't bounce their way.Â
Another 'Cat that had a large impact on the game was Daryn Hickok who led the game in scoring with 17 points while also grabbing 6 boards.Â
Although they currently are on a slide, WSU has shown plenty of reasons for their fans to be hopeful and they'll have an opportunity to turn things around when they face off against the team that sparked the losing streak. The Wildcats will battle the Idaho State Bengals in Pocatello, ID on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 P.M.Â
The game will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
