'Cats conclude road trip at Idaho State Thursday

Weber State and Idaho State will meet Thursday night in Pocatello, before Weber State hosts three games next week.

Weber State women's basketball wraps a three-game road trip this Thursday night in a rematch against Idaho State in Pocatello.  

The Wildcats and Bengals will tipoff at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym in Pocatello. The game will be televised on ESPN+ with live stats available at WeberStateSports.com and the Weber State Wildcats mobile app.  

The Wildcats are 7-9 overall and 3-4 in Big Sky play, currently in sixth place in the league standings. Weber State won four out of five games from mid-December to January 1. Since then, the Wildcats have lost three-straight, including two road games at Idaho and Eastern Washington last week. Weber State also fell by one point to Idaho State on January 8. 

As a team, Weber State ranks third in the Big Sky in scoring defense, giving up 62.6 points per game. The Wildcats are also third in rebounding margin at +6.4 and rank fourth in free throw percentage at .766. 

Individually, Daryn Hickok leads the Wildcats in scoring at 13.5 points per game. She has scored in double figures nine times this season. Hickok is also tied for sixth in the conference in rebounding at 7.5 per game and is ninth in free throw percentage. 

Jadyn Matthews is third in the Big Sky in rebounding, pulling down 9.1 rebounds per game. She is also 13th in the conference in scoring at 11.9 per game. She has four double-doubles on the year and has scored in double figures 10 times. 

Emma Torbert is 14th in scoring at 11.9 points per game and tied for sixth in rebounding at 7.5. Torbert is also second in the conference in blocks at 1.6 per game and ranks sixth in steals. She had a career-high five steals in Saturday's game at Eastern Washington. 

Idaho State comes into Thursday's game with a 10-6 overall record and a 6-1 record in Big Sky play, currently second in the league standings. The Bengals have won eight straight games and are 5-0 at home this season. 

Weber State holds a 48-44 all-time lead over Idaho State and the two teams have met every year since 1977. However, the Bengals have dominated the series as of late. Idaho State has won eight straight games against the Wildcats, including a 67-66 win earlier this month in Ogden. In games in Pocatello, Idaho State holds a 24-22 all-time lead and the Bengals have won three-straight. Weber State's last win in Pocatello was in 2017. 

In the January 8 game in Ogden, Weber State held a four point lead in the final two minutes but couldn't hang on for the win. Emma Torbert had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Jadyn Matthews added 14 points and 11 rebounds in that game. 

Velaida Harris is in her fourth season as the head coach of at Weber State. 

After Thursday's game, the Wildcats will host three games at home next week, beginning Monday night against Southern Utah. Weber State will also host Northern Colorado on Thursday, January 27 at 11 a.m. and host Sacramento State on Saturday, January 29. 

The Big Sky Tournament will be held March 7-11 in Boise, Idaho.
