Wildcats Wrap Up Road Trip, Beat Vandals in Idaho

10/8/2022 3:32:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

MOSCOW, Idaho – Weber State volleyball wrapped up its two-week road trip with a 3-1 (30-28, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15) win over the Idaho Vandals on Saturday afternoon.

In a closely contested opening frame, it took an incredible comeback effort from the 'Cats to steal a 30-28 victory. Idaho came out with a 12-5 lead to open the match, and later had a 15-10 lead, but the Wildcats came storming back. A Dani Richins kill tied the set at 19 points each, and the teams exchanged leads prior to the Wildcats reaching set point at 24-21. The Vandals knotted things up at 24, and went on to have three set points, but Weber State, who was trailing 27-28, scored three points in a row to close out the set.

The second set was all Weber State all the time. The only time that the Wildcats trailed was at 1-0, but the Wildcat offense was purring and couldn't be stopped. The 'Cats cruised to a 25-15 set victory to go up 2-0 in the match.

Idaho wouldn't go away quietly, however, and played hard in the third set. The Vandals started the set with a 10-2 run and that was enough to fend off a late Weber State rally. Trailing 17-23, Weber State went on a five-point run that was punctuated by back-to-back Baylee Bodily service aces, but the Vandals closed out the set by scoring on the next two plays.

After being tied at 3 points each early on, the Wildcats opened up a lead by scoring four points in a row and the 'Cats never looked back. The lead was extended all the way to 11 points prior to the Vandals scoring on a trio of plays, but a kill from Kate Standifird finished off the set and the match at 25-16 in the fourth.
The victory gives Weber State (10-6, 4-1) it's fourth win in a row, including three straight road wins over Big Sky foes.

QUOTABLES

"I thought Idaho played really well. We had our moments, but they made it tough on us to match any level of consistency. This was a good learning experience for us that we need to learn from so we can grow." – Jeremiah Larsen
