'Cats win home opener over Western Colorado

Dillon Jones had 21 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to lead Wildcats.
OGDEN - Behind another double-double from Dillon Jones, Weber State picked up its first win of the season with a 83-67 victory over Western Colorado Thursdy night at the Dee Events Center.
Jones finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals on the night He was 6 of 10 from the field and 8 of 10 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats led 50-28 at halftime and led by as many as 25 points early in the second half. Western Colorado cut the lead to 13 points five minutes into the half before the Wildcats pulled away.
Weber State shot 51 percent from the field and held the Mountaineers to 40 percent shooting. The 'Cats were also 8 of 20 from 3-point range and 15 of 18 from the free throw line.
The win was also the first victory for new Wildcat head coach Eric Duft.
A total of 10 different Wildcats scored in the game. Fresno State transfer Junior Ballard had his season-high with 17 points and knocked down two 3-pointers.
Another four-year transfer, Steven Verplancken, added 10 points and also made two 3-pointers and KJ Cunningham had nine points, two assists and two steals off the bench.
Jones also became the 32nd player in WSU history to reach 500 career rebounds and posted his 19th career double-double.
Thursday's game was the only home game of WSU's first seven games on the schedule. The 'Cats head to Colorado State on Monday night before three games at the Vegas 4 Tournament from November 21-23.
