BOISE, Idaho – Weber State basketball saved its best quarter for last, but a late rally came up just short on Sunday afternoon as the Wildcats fell to the Boise State Broncos by a final score of 63-52.
The Wildcats got off to a great start in ExtraMile Arena on Sunday afternoon. Ava Williams scored the Wildcats' first points of the season, and two of her five first quarter points, on a pair of free throws to get the 'Cats on the board. Following a pair of points from the Bronco, WSU went on an 8-0 that was punctuated by a Laura Taylor three pointer to give Weber State a 10-2 lead. The Wildcats wrapped up the first with a 16-10 lead.
Plagued by foul trouble, the Wildcats weren't able to be as lethal in the following two quarters. The Bronco defense limited Weber State and scored a late bucket in the second quarter to take a 25-24 lead into the locker rooms, and that lead ballooned to 44-31 at the end of the third.
Weber State saved its best for last, however. Trailing 52-38, Weber State went on an 11-4 run that was capped by a Daryn Hickok defensive rebound after which she went coast-to-coast to get a bucket that forced Boise State to call timeout and regroup after the Wildcats had trimmed the lead to just seven points. Weber State was able to get some buckets afterward, but the Boise State offense picked up the pace and WSU couldn't get any close than seven points. The Broncos defended their home court and finished out the game with a 63-52 win.
