'Cats return to the road at Cal Poly Friday night

Wildcats have three non-conference games remaining starting Friday night in San Luis Obispo, California.

• Weber State returns to the road for the final three non-conference games of the season starting Friday night at Cal Poly. The Wildcats and Mustangs will tipoff at 7 p.m. Pacific time (8 p.m. MT) Friday from the Mott Athletics Center in San Luis Obispo, California. The game will be televised on ESPN+ with the WSU radio broadcast on 103.1 FM "The Wave." Live stats at WeberStateSports.com. 

• Weber State is 3-7 on the season following Saturday's 82-58 win over Saint Martin's. The 'Cats shot a season-best 50 percent from the field and made 12 3-pointers in the win. 

• Cal Poly is 5-4 overall this season. The Mustangs had a four-game winning streak, including wins over Big Sky teams Idaho and Portland State, before a 74-68 loss at Washington on Tuesday night. Cal Poly also beat California Baptist, another common opponent with Weber State. This is just the second-ever meeting between the two schools. WSU beat Cal Poly 85-43 in March 2013 in the first round of the CIT Tournament in Ogden.     

  

• Two Wildcats are making a return to a former school in Friday's game. Junior Ballard and Dyson Koehler both played at Cal Poly. Ballard played in 45 games over two seasons from 2018-20 with the Mustangs and averaged 10.4 points per game. Koehler played in 18 games as a freshman during the 2020-21 COVID-shortened season before transferring to Weber State. 

• Weber State is first in the country in free throw shooting at 83.3 percent. The 'Cats have shot 82 percent or better in six-straight games, and have shot better than 90 percent twice. Individually, senior Zahir Porter is eighth in the country at 93.3 percent.  

• WSU junior Steven Verplancken had a career-high 21 points and made five 3-pointers in Saturday's win. It was his seventh time in double figures this season. He is averaging 12.6 points per game and shooting 47 percent from 3-point range this season. 

• Wildcat sophomore forward Dillon Jones had his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's win. He is averaging 140 points and 9.2 rebounds per game He ranks fourth in the nation in defensive rebounds per game at 8.4 per game. 

• Weber State has two in-state road games next week, Monday at Utah State and Thursday at BYU.
