Wildcats roll to 74-45 win at Cal Poly

Weber State shot a season-best 53 percent from the field and made 11 3-pointers.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif - A huge first half run propelled Weber State to a dominating 74-45 win at Cal Poly Friday night. 

The Wildcats went on a 27-2 run over an 11 minute stretch of the first half and never looked back in picking up their second-straight win to improve to 4-7 on the season. 

Weber State shot a season-best 53 percent from the field and knocked down 11 3-pointers in the win. WSU held Cal Poly to 35 percent shooting and just four 3-pointers. WSU also outrebounded the Mustangs 33-25. 

The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead just two minutes into the game, but the 27-2 run by the Wildcats over the next 11 minutes and gave WSU a 29-11 and made five 3-pointers in that stretch. 

WSU shot 58 percent from the field with six 3-pointers in the half and led 40-25 at halftime. 

The Wildcat lead was never less than 13 in the second half. WSU closed the game won a 29-8 run for the 29-point win. 

Four Wildcats scored in double figures in the win led by junior Steven Verplancken with 15 points. He was 6 of 8 from the field, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range. 

Dillon Jones had his sixth double-double of the season as he finished with 13 points and had 10 rebounds. He also dished out a game-high five assists. 

Two former Cal Poly players now at Weber State also scored in double figures. Junior Ballard had 14 points and Dyson Koehler added 10 points and both players made two 3-pointers. 
 
Weber State has two in-state road games next week for the final two non-conference games of the season. The 'Cats will play at undefeated Utah State Monday night in Logan and at BYU on Thursday in Provo. 

The Big Sky season begins on December 29 against Northern Colorado.
