Another W in Logan! Wildcats rally to beat Aggies 75-72

Weber State trailed by 18 points in the first half before rallying for the win and handing Utah State its first loss of the season.
LOGAN - Weber State overcame an 18-point first-half deficit and rallied to beat Utah State 75-72 Monday night at the Smith Spectrum in Logan. The Wildcats gave the Aggies their first loss of the season and stopped their chance to set a school record for the best start in program history.Â
Utah State came into the game with a 9-0 record, tied for the best start in school history. The Aggies had a NET rating of 10th in the nation. Weber State was 4-7 and had a NET rating of 250.
The first half was all Utah State as the Wildcats trailed by 18 points with 10:52 to play in the first half. At that point, ESPN probability gave Utah State a 98.7 percent chance of winning the game.Â
The Aggies led 43-29 at halftime but Weber State started the second half on a 24-5 run. The 'Cats took their first lead at 50-48 with 11 minutes to play. WSU led by six with 6:23 to play before the Aggies rallied to tie the game at 61-61 with 3:07 to play.Â
Weber State knocked down three 3-pointers in the final three minutes and held on for the win.Â
It is just the second win in Logan for the Wildcats in the last 13 games.Â
Weber State shot 49 percent from the field and shot 59 percent in the second half. For the third-straight game, the Wildcats shot 50 percent from 3-point range as they finished 10 for 20 and made six 3-pointers in the second half.Â
WSU held Utah State to 42 percent overall and 35 percent from 3-point range. USU came into the game ranked first in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage.Â
The 'Cats outrebounded the Aggies 36-30 and had 17 assists on 28 field goals.Â
Five Wildcats scored in double figures led by Dillon Jones with 16 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists.Â
Junior Ballard had 14 points off the bench and Dyson Koehler had a season-high 12 points with five rebounds. KJ Cunningham scored a career-high 11 points with three 3-pointers and Steven Verplancken added 10 points, all coming in the second half.Â
The Wildcats outscored the Aggies 46-29 in the second half.Â
Weber State has won three-straight games and is 5-7 on the season.Â
The Wildcats will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule with another in-state game Thursday night at BYU.
