Jones scores career-high and 'Cats open Big Sky play with 81-72 win

Dillon Jones had 26 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in the win.
OGDEN - Dillon Jones had a career-high 26 points and Weber State started off Big Sky Conference play on a high note with an 81-72 win over Northern Colorado Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.
Jones finished with 26 points, including 14 of 15 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 13 rebounds for his seventh double-double this season and dished out a game-high six assists.
The Wildcats are now 6-8 on the season and have won four of their last five games.
Weber State had a 12-2 run early in the game to jump out to an 18-12 lead. The 'Cats held a 37-28 lead at halftime.
WSU started the second half on a 23-10 run and led by 22 points at 60-38 with 11:35 to play.
Northern Colorado responded with a 17-0 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to five.
WSU led by five with 1:57 to play when Jones hit his second 3-pointer to extend the lead to eight and the 'Cats made eight free throws in the final minute to secure the win.
Weber State shot 46 percent from the field, compared to 44 percent for the Bears. The Wildcats outrebounded UNC 39-31 and were 22 of 26 from the free throw line.
Steven Verplancken Jr. added 15 points and Alex Tew had 10 points for Weber State.
The 'Cats are right back at the Dee Events Center Saturday afternoon to close out 2022 with a New Year's Eve game at 2 p.m. against Northern Arizona.
