Wildcats Comeback Fall Short Against Vandals

Ogden, UT - On a day in which the great Kathy Miller's number 44 jersey was retired by Weber State, the women's basketball team battled back from an early deficit, but ultimately fell to the Lady Vandals from Idaho 82-73. The loss dropped the 'Cats to 4-11 in Big Sky play (8-16 overall).

How it Happened:
Poor shooting and 7 turnovers in the first quarter put the Wildcats in an early 12 point hole. Weber did not lead the entire first half of the game, but kept fighting, cutting the lead to 5 at the break. In the 3rd quarter, the 'Cats came out strong with Emma Torbert scoring the first 5 points to finally bring the teams even. Emma would end the quarter with 7 strong points, and the Wildcats held the lead going into the 4th at 54-53.

For the 2 games in this short homestand, the downfall for the 'Cats was the first 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. In Thursday evening's contest against Eastern Washington the 'Cats were outscored 10-0 in the first 5 minutes, in this game they were outscored 17-4. After falling behind early and expending the effort to get back in the game, a 12 point deficit with 5 minutes to go was too big a hill to climb, and the Wildcats fell by 9.
