Strong Performances Highlight a Week at Home for the Wildcats

Weber State track and field was back in action for a home meet this weekend in Ogden, UT for an important meet leading up to higher levels of competition with the Big Sky Championships coming up in just a few weeks.Â

Sprinters had a good weekend with several high finishers. In the 55m there were three top eight spots with Bryson Cortes taking third with a time of 6.54. Conner Draper ran 6.61 to finish sixth, and Muamer Mujic placed 7th coming across at 6.66.

In the 200m Draper finished second with 22.67 and Mujic came fifth at 23.63. Cyrus Rindlisbacher earned a first-place finish in the 400m with a time of 50.60.

Two athletes finished well in the 55m hurdles, Jed Smith finished 5th at 8.30, and Jakob Pearson placed sixth with a time of 8.35 to round up top performances in the sprint events.

Bryce Anderson earned a second-place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:56.70, and Kayden Harmon followed close with a third-place finish and a time of 1:57.71.

In the field events, Xakai Harry saw a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 23' 4.5" as well as a fourth-place finish in the high jump clearing a height of 6' 6".Â

Anthony Garcia finished just behind Harry in the high jump with a mark of 6' 4" to earn the fifth spot.

Johnnie Talamantes earned a second-place mark in the long jump with 22' 8".

Pole vaulters continued their strong performances with a first-place finish from Lachlan Burns with a height of 16' 8.75" which is the highest he has hit so far this season and has him ranked second in the Big Sky this season. Parker Sagers and Jed Smith tied for second by clearing 15' 7" which is a personal best for both athletes, and it's a number 6 mark in the Big Sky.

Throwing events saw two second-place finishers in Gaige Veilhauer in shot put with a throw of 46' 8.25", and Jake Weathers in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 48'9".Â

The Wildcats look to continue the momentum this week at a pair of meets, one at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, WA, and the Montana State Invitational in Bozeman, MT.Â
