Wildcats Finish Fifth at Thunderbird Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Weber State women's golf team closed out the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday with a fifth place finish after a closing round 301 at Sunbrook Golf Club.
The Wildcats opened the tournament in fourth place with a 308 on Thursday and moved to third after a 299 on Friday before falling to fifth over the final 18 holes. Over the 54 holes, WSU recorded a total score of 908.
Jessica Zelasko opened her tournament on Thursday with a 2-under-par 70 and took the individual lead after carding six birdies on the day. She slipped one spot with a second round 75 and added a 76 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 5th place with a 5-over-par total of 221 to lead Weber State.
Taitum Beck started with back-to-back rounds of 78, but posted a team-best even-par 72 in the final round to jump into the top-20 with a tie for 17th place. Molly Holbert gave the Wildcats three players inside the top-20 as she shot rounds of 78, 74 and 77 to finish in a tie for 20th.
Morgan Bentley (82-76-76) shot 234 to tie for 38th place, while Isabel Gutierrez (87-74-77) tied for 53rd at 238 to round out the Wildcat scoring team.
Emma Johnson (80-73-80) led a group of Wildcat individuals with a tie for 33rd at 233. Aerin Song (80-82-76) shot 238 to tie for 53rd, Dylin Myers (88-80-83) tied for 92nd at 251 and Sarah Hameed (91-88-76) shot 255 to finish 97th.
Arkansas State shot a team total of 889 to edge Seattle by a single shot for the team title. Southern Utah's PluemYongyuan shot rounds of 79-68-70 for a 1-over-par 217 to claim the individual title, finishing one shot ahead of Oral Roberts' Kiana Oshiro.
