Wildcats Continue to Improve Ahead of Big Sky Championships

The sunny weather that the Wildcats brought back from California only lasted through Thursday this week for their meet at BYU for the Robison Invitational. The meet began on Wednesday with multis where Jed Smith and Caleb Whitney each competed. Coach Talley feels they both "battled really well and prepared themselves for the conference meet coming up in two weeks."
After completion of the multis on Thursday the weather went back to Utah Spring style and meet officials and coaches decided to cancel the meet due to lightning. The meet picked up again on Saturday to fit in all the events.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase Jamison Wilkes finished second with a time of 9:28.26. Taylor Knight ran a 9:50.73 to finish sixth, Curt Crossley finished seventh with a PR time of 9:54.60, and Carson Wilkins finished ninth at 9:58.56.
Hanokh Gailson had a fourth-place finish in the 800 with a strong performance with a time of 1:54.72, just a couple seconds shy of his PR. Bryce Anderson finished sixth at 1:56.29.
Coach Talley commented "Lachlan Burns is showing a lot of consistency in the Pole Vault. Jed had a nice PR in the Pole Vault as well. They had moved the Pole Vault inside on the indoor track instead of keeping it outside, and both Lachlan and Jed hit marks that would be on our all-time list for indoors."
In the Javelin Cody Canard finished third and Josh Trafny finished fourth. In Shot Put Gaige Vielhauer finished eighth with a throw of 142' 11". Ryan Johnson threw a PR in the Discus with a mark of 142' 11" and a PR in the Hammer throw at 136' 9". Jake Weathers was able to finish second with a mark of 167' 7".
The Wildcats performed well for the meet despite having a few athletes out. Coach Talley said, "we're dealing with some minor injuries here and there, and we have been racing at a lot of meets in the recent weeks." The Wildcats will be back in action next week at the Bengal Invitational at Idaho State which will be the last meet before the Big Sky Championships.
