Weber State upsets 23rd ranked Saint Mary's 61-57 to improve to 2-0

MORAGA, Calif. - Weber State beat a ranked opponent for the first time in 23 years as the Wildcats rallied to knock off 23rd ranked Saint Mary's Sunday night.Â
It's Weber State's first win over a ranked opponent since December 2000 at Utah.Â
The Wildcats trailed by as many as 16 points early in the second half but had an incredible rally to come back and beat the Gaels.Â
Dillon Jones had a career-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to the comeback win. He played all 40 minutes of the game and was 11 of 20 from the field and a perfect 5 of 5 from the free throw line.Â
Saint Mary's led by 13 points in the second half and led 37-26 at halftime.Â
The Gales led by 16 points at 47-31 with 13:48 to play when Weber State went on a 22-4 run over the next nine minutes to take their first lead. The run included a 14-0 stretch.Â

Saint Mary's tied the game at 53-53 with 3:58 to play when Jones hit a go-ahead 3-pointer that gave the Wildcats the lead for good.Â
Both teams shot 40 percent from the field for the game. Saint Mary's shot 55 percent in the first half and 25 percent in the second half. Weber State shot 29 percent oin the first half and 50 percent in the second half.Â
Weber State forced 15 Saint Mary's turnovers and was 9 of 11 from the free throw line.Â
Blaise Threatt added nine points, all coming in the second half, and was 4 of 7 from the field.Â
Steven Verplancken and Alex Tew each had eight points and Dyson Koehler added seven.Â
The Wildcats are 2-0 on the early season and now face three games in Canada this weekend. Weber State will play Garnder-Webb, Yale, and Colgate at the Atlantic Slam this Friday-Sunday in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.Â
All three games will be televised on ESPN+.Â
